How Can I get a Medical Marijuana Card?

A Detailed Explanation on Getting Your Cannabis Recommendation in San Jose California

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (June 17th, 2013) Millions of people suffer from conditions such as cancer, depression, chronic pain, and others. Most of these people would likely qualify for medical marijuana use in California, yet they are unsure how to go about getting the recommendation to legally use cannabis, which has been shown to relieve many of the symptoms that they suffer from. Yet getting a medical marijuana recommendation can be as easy for those suffering as making an appointment with a qualified doctor.

“The good news for those suffering is that relief is available, and all they need to do is make the appointment to get evaluated and obtain the recommendation,” explains Douglas Chloupek of MedMar Healing Center.

Medical marijuana was made legal in California through Proposition 215, which is the Compassionate Use Act. The law allows for those who have a doctor’s recommendation to be in possession of and use medical marijuana. Conditions that qualify for medical marijuana use in California include cancer, AIDS, anorexia, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, migraine headaches, insomnia, premenstrual syndrome, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and substance abuse, among others.

In order to obtain and begin using medical marijuana, patients suffering from any of these or other conditions simply need to make an appointment for an evaluation. MedMar Healing Center recommends that patients in the San Jose area use San Jose 420 Evaluations (, located at 115 N. 4th Street. They have licensed medical cannabis doctors who will evaluate anyone. They offer a new-patient discount, as well as specials for seniors, those from out of town, and others, all on their website. They accept appointments, as well as walk-ins. They will provide each qualifying patient with an identification card that, while not legally mandated, is recommended.

Once patients have the medical cannabis recommendation from the doctor, they can then stop into MedMar Healing Center with their doctor recommendation. MedMar has a 4-step sign-in process that involves:

    1. Present their valid California ID and the doctor’s recommendation at the front desk.
    2. The front desk will then verify the information with the doctor’s office.
    3. The new member will fill out a membership form, which is valid for the length of the doctor recommendation that was given.
    4. The new member will receive a tour of the facility before they are helped by one of the budtenders, who are able to guide the patient to the right medicine for their medical condition.

“The process may seem involved at first, but it is much quicker than it sounds,” added Chloupek. “Plus, the end result is worth the time and effort it takes to get a legal doctor’s recommendation. Once that has been done, relief is on the way.”
